We had a really nice trip to Woodloch with our 3- and 4-year-old daughters. We got a great midweek deal, and stayed Monday to Friday, which was just the right amount of time. The highlights for the kids were the new indoor splash pad and pool, the big buffet dinner and the staff show. The highlights for the adults were the terrific customer service, lots of things to try and do with the kids (even off-season) and a very clean room. The reviews are accurate. The food is fine, but not great. The staff is wonderful, and the overall feel of the property is welcoming. I did think it would be a little fancier after looking at the pictures, but as a child-friendly location it’s nice to feel like things are sturdy and not too fancy. The kids have been asking to go back ever since we drove away (with many tears) and we will probably do at least a long weekend again in a few years. Thanks to everyone for the good recommendation. –Heather from Waterford, NY

Hi! My name is Jen. My husband and our two kids, Drew and Eva (12 and 5), live in Weehawken, NJ. Usually, we spend our family vacation in Disney World. But this year we simply could not afford it, between flights, hotels, food, etc. So I began searching online for a great place within driving distance. I found a few options, but they didn’t seem to offer enough variety for the whole family. Then, at Drew’s little league game, one of the parents suggested Woodloch in the Poconos. At first we both thought, “Poconos? Are you kidding?” Something about thinking of my kids in a heart-shaped tub didn’t quite fit. But I went to the web site and couldn’t believe all they had to offer. So, I booked us. I was still a little apprehensive, but I have to say that from the moment we arrived we felt like we found a new home. The staff are incredibly friendly and very enthusiastic, the food was delicious and there was so much of it! And, they had great choices for us and the kids. I also was very impressed with the cleanliness of the resort. It was a perfect fit for us, with a wide range of activities, several meal plan options (including for special diets, as Eva is allergic to nuts), live nightly entertainment, indoor/outdoor pools, lake, golf course AND a world-renowned destination spa! Eva and Drew LOVED it! They never ran out of things to do. I LOVED it - especially the spa! It’s gorgeous! When is came time to leave and Eva finally stopped crying, she said “Woodloch is better than Disney World!” I have to say I agree. We only stayed for four days this year but next year plan on bringing two other families with us and staying in the guest houses for a week. We cannot say enough about Woodloch. We would recommend it to families with children of all ages! –Jen from Weehawken, NJ

We have been going to Woodloch for four years. This year we decided to go on a cruise instead. Well, my children (ages 19, 16, and 9) will not let me forget it. They compared everything on the cruise to Woodloch and it didn’t compare. They love the food, atmosphere and entertainment at Woodloch. We always called Woodloch our land cruise. Everyone in my family agrees that Carnival Cruise management needs to vacation at Woodloch and take notes. We love Woodloch—there’s no place like it! —Carol from Dover, OH

Every great thing people say about this place—the activities, the staff—it’s all true. I also think the guests themselves do a lot to make Woodloch great without even knowing it. They are all friendly, inclusive, and always willing to share in a good time. Woodloch is like summer camp for the whole family (and I hear it’s awesome in winter, too). Consider checking it out during one of their less-expensive fall weekends. You will not be disappointed. A look at the summer rates might cause you to cringe a bit. But rest assured, at the end of your stay you will say it was worth it. There are good reasons why employees stay there for decades and families come back year after year, some for generations. A sure bet for a memorable family vacation. —John from Elizabethtown, PA

We thoroughly enjoyed a long weekend here last fall and are planning a return trip this spring. Though we liked all the “family together” activities, we would have loved more couple time (I’m thinking of a “kids’ movie night” or an extended day activity just for kids). But all in all, a great getaway for families. —Tess from Baltimore, MD

We loved Woodloch Pines! It was the first time we were away with our two kids (ages 4 and 1), and it was truly a great experience. First, the resort was extremely clean. The staff was extremely accomodating and the food was great. The waitstaff in the dining room was amazing. We never heard the word “no” the entire time we were there. The owner and other family members are always around, talking to guests and making sure that everyone is happy. It was a perfect vacation for our 4-year-old son, who loved everything—go-karts, bumper boats, bumper cars, big pool, kiddie pool, food, and everything else. The kiddie pool was great. Our 4-year-old loved the slide and it was fun also for our 1-year-old. There’s no ledge for her to fall off of. There was a never-ending list of things to do at all times of day, and it was amazing to learn of the number of families who return year after year. We would recommend it for families with children over 3, as it was a little hard with the little one. But, we’ll be going back in two years when our kids are 6 and 3 and we look forward to an amazing trip to Woodloch. Our son is already talking about when we go back! –Amy from Syosset, NY

My two 6-year-olds (boy and girl twins) had a wonderful time at Woodloch, which naturally meant that so did my husband and I. The thing you really notice is how the people who work here are so incredibly kid-oriented, from the front desk to the restaurant staff to the housekeeping ladies. We never ran out of fun things to do, and my kids were happy from dawn to dusk. We hope to be back in a year or two, and by then the kids will be able to do even more. —Natalie from Chester, NJ

Your reviewer describes the “plentiful and delicious” food at Woodloch Pines. While the wait staff was outstanding and my daughter got so attached to our server that she was hysterical about coming back home, the food was overly rich, generally slathered with butter, and had an emphasis on hearty (read unhealthy) options. There were some high notes, though. The baked goods were delicious and the Saturday night dinner was also very good. As the review noted, the kids options were great for picky eaters like mine. I would definitely go back to Woodloch, but my expectations about the food would be more in line with what they offer. —Monica from Chicago, IL

We’re definitely a “Woodloch family.” We’ve been coming here every other year since my twins (now teens) were toddlers. Your review sums up the one-big-family atmosphere and joyous fun that happens here. I can’t think of a more wonderful set of vacation memories we could have given our children. —Cheryl from Bethesda, MD
